The Shekhawat is a sub-dynasty of Kachwaha Rajputs,they were found mainly in Rajasthan State, India. The Shekhawat dynasty claims to be the descendant of the great rajput combatant Maharao Shekha ji. The Shekhawat Rajputs ruled over Shekhawati area for more than 500 years. Sir Yadunath Sarkar has written in his book (The Fall of the Mughal Empire) that Shekhawat was the most brave of the sub-clans of the Kachwaha lineage of Jaipur.The brief historical and pedigree outline of The Shekhawat dynasty is as follows, The Kachwaha ruler of Jaipur is one of the 65 branches of the clans and the famous of all the Kachwahas, and the scion of the great Rajput combatant Rao Sheikhji.
The early kings conferred loyalty to their overlords, the kings of Amber, But Rao Shekhaji declared himself free in 1471 and founded a distinet reign for his scions. The Shekhawats ruled over the Shekhawati field for over 500 years and are distinguished with the inherited title of “Tazimi Sirdars”, whom HH the Maharaja of Jaipur accepts by ascent from his pew.
